Division, Confusion, Prayer, Repeat

As I consider all that is happening in the world right now, I can't help but feel a little overwhelmed with it all. How do I explain it to my kids? How can I protect our family? What is the most effective way to help?
This week I have been overcome with so many ideas and information.

Japan:

Earthquake. Tsunami. Radiation. Death. Apocalyptic Destruction. Starvation. Economic collapse.
They need prayer and money. A God sized problem. This weighs on my heart and mind. It is hard to comprehend it. The latest news on the radiation. Pray for these people who are risking their lives to stop this radiation.

Rob Bell:
My husband and I watched several of his NOOMA videos in our small group at our former church. I found them challenging and at times a little to0 polished. If it seems to good to be true it probably is:

This is an interview that Mr. Bell did with Martin Bashir on MS NBC. Bell seemed unprepared and confused.

I have never been a huge Bashir fan, but he is the only person I saw interview Bell this week that seemed to ask the questions I would have liked to ask.

Charlie Sheen:

Speaking of Rob Bell, this is an open letter to Mr. Sheen posted on the Belief Blog on the CNN website. Interesting that CNN posted this and that it mentions Bell and Graham in the same paragraph. Charlie Sheen is an addict. He is not a victim. I understand the fascination. I too am one of his 3 million followers on Twitter, but I pray for him and his children. They may ultimately pay the price for his ego.

Homeschooling Division:

There are many different reasons people homeschool, and the variety of thoughts and curriculums that you can access is vast. Ken Hamm is a rock star among the conservative homeschool set. ( He believes that the words written in the Bible are believable and literal, and so do I.) He has criticized some of his peers in the homeschool community who take a more liberal view of science. I do not know Mr. Hamm, but I have listened to his radio show and have seen some of his videos.
He has been uninvited to two homeschool conferences (so far). He has been criticized by some other homeschool science curriculum developers. Here is two links that explain the controversy.

I hope and pray for peace for all of these situations.
